October 6, 2021 Ninety-three women veterans, who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam Wars, were honored with a trip from Chicago to Washington, D.C., free of charge, in honor of their service. Operation HerStory was the project begun by Illinois DAR Fort Payne Chapter Daughter, Ginny Narsete. Many other DAR supporters and veterans were involved in the making of this historic all-female flight. Louis Joliet Chapter Daughter, Bobbie Today flew on this flight as a Medical Guardian. Thank you to all who participated, donated, and supported our women veterans who made this flight happen!

First Colors Ceremony April 17, 2021 The World War I Centennial Commission will raise its inaugural American flag during the First Colors broadcast, streamed online globally. On Saturday, April 17, 2021, the new National World War I Memorial in Washington, D.C. will formally open to the public to remind Americans for the next century about one of our country’s greatest triumphs.The program, hosted by actor Gary Sinise, will commemorate those who served in the trenches and on the home front, celebrating a nation forever changed by the sacrifices they made and the ideals they demonstrated.

Honor Flight Chicago Virtual Day of Honor Although the 2020 flight season has been canceled due to the current pandemic, Honor Flight Chicago's mission to Honor, Thank and Inspire our senior war heroes will continue. We will fly again when the time is right. For the remainder of the 2020 season, our focus shifts to making certain that our veterans – both our alumni and those who still await their deserved Day of Honor – feel the appreciation, respect and love that they earned through their service to our country during a time of war.
